How long do I wait to get an STD test after unprotected sex?It is best to wait at least 7days after unprotected sex to test for clamydia& gonorrhea. It is suggested to wait 23 to 90 days to test for HIV. It is suggested to wait 4-10 weeks to test for Hep C. In all cases, do not have sexual relations (after you are tested) until you get test results to prevent the spead of sexually transmitted infection.

What is the difference between a STD and a STI??Really no difference. STD is old terminolgy: Sexually Transmitted Disease STI is new terminology: Sexually Transmitted Infection. STD and STI can be used interchangably.

Do I need to see a doctor/provider to get tested for STD/STI?In most cases the answer is no. You can come to Family Planning to be tested by the nurses. You can also be treated with antibiotics by the nurses using standing orders from ND Family Planning signed by our Medical Director. You will need to provide us with a medical history and do the required paperwork for us to properly assess your needs to best serve you! However, if you have signs or symptoms of an infection, you will need to see a doctor right away.

I am sure I have an STD because the symptoms are so uncomfortable. What should I do?If you are having symptoms, you need to see your regular doctor or get an appointment with one of our providers! It is important for you to get treatment right away!

What are common symptoms of a sexually transmitted disease?There are so many! Itch, odor, discharge, burning with urination, wart-like skin bumps, weakness, fatigue, painful sex, anal itchingand/or bleeding, painful bowel movements, and bleeding between periods are a FEW. Remember, if you are having a syptoms, we will shedule you with a provider!

If I test positive for a STD, who will find out?"The State Lab, our nurse, and the provider here at Family Planning. Other than us, NO ONE will find out. We use a medical record that only our staff can access. Even your regular doctor will not have access to this information unless you sign a Release of Information. However, we do ask you to tell us about your sexual contact(s), and we will annonymously contact them on your behalf. We will notify them of "an exposure" and encourage them to get tested. We will not tell them who, what, when, or even where!! It is our duty to ensure that anyone with an infection gets testing and treated to prevent further spread!

If i test positive for a STD, do i have to identify my sexual partner/s?"We will contact partners on your behalf to ensure everyone with an infection gets treatment to stop the spread of STD/STIs.

Is it possible to get pregnant the first time I have sex?Yup. As long as you get a monthly period, you are releasing eggs. If an egg is fertilized, you will become pregnant. The only guarenteed way not to get pregnant is to not have sex. However, there are several methods of birth control that are VERY VERY effective. Your provider can help you decide which will work best for you!

How soon do I need to take a "Plan B" after unprotected sex?"As soon as possible!! It should be taken within 72 hours. It may still be given as late as 120 hours, however, it is much less effective.

Do I have to have a pelvic exam to get a prescription for birth control?If you are under 21 years old. most times you absolutely do not need one. You will need a health exam/vital signs and report your health history to the provider. If you are over 21 years of age, you will follow pap guidelines set up by your provider. ***IF YOU HAVE HAD A RECENT PAP at another clinic, it is very helpful to bring a copy of the report to your appointment

What happens if I want to change my method of birth control?Easy Pea-sy! Just give us a call! We can speak to your provider to ensure that any change made is a safe and practical for you!

Do I really have to take my oral birth control pill at the same time every day?YES. As close to the same time as possible for two reasons. To ensure that your birth control is as effective as you need it to be and to prevent break through bleeding. If taking your pill at the same time each day is not going to work for you, there are MANY other options for you!

Can I get pregnant if I have sex during my monthly period?Yes. Sometimes vaginal bleeding during ovulation can happen and this bleeding can be mistaken for a period. Ovulation is your most fertile time of the month! Also, sperm can survive for a few days and can fertilize an egg... making pregnancy possible.

Do antibiotics really reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills??Yes, certain antibiotics do! It is VERY improtant to tell your doctor that you are taking the birth control pill if he prescribes antibiotics for you. ALWAYS use a back up method (like condoms) if you have vaginal sex. Otherwise, you can always refrain from vaginal sex until your mediation is completed. Your doctor will advise you when it is safe to resume normal activity.

What if I do not want a bill to come to my house?Then we will not contact you by mail! We respect your rights for privacy and confidentiality.

What is "sensitive billing practice"?"It means that if you are uncomfortable recieving a bill in the mail, we will work with you to arrange a payment method that protects your sexual health information. If you choose to be a "confidential client", we will refrain from billing your private health insurance so that your household will not get an Explaniation of Benefits from your insurance company. However. the entire amount of your bill would then be determined by famiy income and number of household members.

What is "sliding fee" billing?"If you qualify for reduced fees, you will either be responsible for 0%, 25%, or 75% of your bill. If you have private/public insurance, your fee will only apply to what the insurance doesn't cover. In many cases, insurane will cover the entire visit

What if I do not have health insurance?You are welcome here! Your bill is based on your household size and income. We can assist you to apply for medical assistance if you qualify. We can work out a monthly payment plan that works for you!

Do you accept cash or checks?yup. And we also have a credit card machine too. We are working on Paypal and Venmo, but they are not ready yet.

I am a teenager. Do I have to have my parents come with me to my appointment?No. Family planning does not disscriminate based on age or anything else. We encourage family participation in your heath care, but we do not require it.

Do I have to get a pap smear every year?Under Age 21-- Pap test is NOT recommended Age 21-29 --Pap recommended every 3 years. Age 25-29--Pap is recommended every 3 years, but MAY use HR/HPV every 5 years as an alternative to the pap if a papteient of average risk. Age 30-65-- Pap every 3 years OR HR/HPV every 3 years OR CO-test every 5 years

Can i bring a friend along to my appointment?You are welcome to bring a friend, as long as we are able to social distance to reduce the spread of illness

Will you report me if I admit to using drugs or alcohol?We want our providers to know the truth about your chemical use to provide you with the best service possible. There are only 4 reasons we would contact services: If you are hurting yourself If someone is hurting you If you feel like hurting someone If you feel like hurting yourself
